I am a high school Spanish teacher at a large public high school in suburban Boston. I am a "winner" in the game of school in that I figured out what I needed to do well to graduate from the high school that I attended in New Jersey and, well, I guess that I've just never left the game.
As the teaching of world languages has shifted to a proficiency-oriented approach in much of the country, I've begun to think more and more about the game of school. I am reasonably sure that I have more or less shifted away from game of school-esque assessments in that I no longer give traditional paper-and-pencil tests that only reward the students that are good at memorizing things, but there is still work to be done. This concept is fascinating to me and I'd like to be part of the solution so that fewer students "lose" the game of school due to things that are out of their control.
